The Hampshire Cricket Board (HCB) has recently reviewed the structure of Women and Girl’s cricket in Hampshire. Following the review it was evident that although a vast number of girls had been introduced to the game, the lack of competitive opportunities at club level has led to many girls giving up prematurely.
HCB in consultation with clubs have therefore revised the programme for 2009. The new programme is designed to continue to introduce girls into the sport but also provide sufficient games to inspire girls to play cricket for years to come.
The new programme will establish under 10 girls sections in three clubs in each district. HCB Community Coaches will recruit girls in primary schools from September to December and invite girls with potential to attend a club introduction session. The club intro session is closely followed by a winter training programme hosted by the selected clubs from January onwards.
In the summer, leagues will be organised in each district to provide games for the 3 clubs as well as any additional clubs.
