Hampshire Disability and Portsmouth Community Cricket Club batsman Gavin Randall has been named Junior Disability Sportsman 2007 at the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Sport Awards.
Gavin's performances in 2007 surpassed all expectations. A dynamic opening batsman, Gavin was Hampshire's top run scorer last season and was justifiably selected to represent England during the summer. Although fairly inexperienced, Randall was awarded the vice captaincy of the national side and was awarded the captaincy for one game against Australia in the Tri-Nations Tournament. To date Randall’s finest international performance came against the England Physical Disabilities team where he scored a match winning 43 in a Twenty20 match. Gavin’s performances have resulted in him being rewarded with a TASS scholarship for one-to-one professional coaching over the winter.
In other categories the HCB U17s were short-listed for Junior Team of the Year, having won the U17 County Championship, and North Gear Twenty20 Champions, Totton & Eling 1st XI were short-listed for Senior Team of the Year.
