GIRLS CRICKET ON THE UP!

On Monday 9th June, the Rose Bowl hosted this year’s girls County Kwik Cricket Final.  14 schools participated having qualified as winners and runners up of their local Kwik Cricket festivals which took place throughout the county.

Andrew Jackson from the HSCA organised the competition with the support of the HCB. The schools taking part on the day were Four Marks, Bosmere, Castle, Oakley, Ashley, Hook, Kings Worthy, St Judes, St Pauls, Bassett Green, Park Gate, Halterworth, St. Swithins and Mount Pleasant.

The festival consisted of four groups with 8 pitches in total so that all schools were playing at once. After some dynamic competition the two schools which made the final were Hook and Kings Worthy, and after a tight match it came down to the last over with Kings Worthy coming out on top.

Every girl who participated in the final received a certificate along with information on girls clubs in Hampshire for them to join. The two winning teams each received medals with the winning side receiving a trophy.

Mike Pollard, Cricket Development Officer for HCB who is responsible for girls cricket, said “This was a fantastic day and great to see so many girls playing cricket. The standard throughout the competition was excellent and I think the girls have learnt a lot from playing against other schools. I hope that this has given the girls the bug to continue playing and join a club”.
