Wildern School won the 2008 Inter Cricket County Final organised by HCB in partnership with Scott Sivier, Competition Manager.

The competition has seen a massive increase in the number of schools taking part this year, with 71 schools entering 10 area festivals across the county.  The winning teams from the festivals then progressed to the semi finals with the final 8 teams competing in the county final at The Rose Bowl.

Following some closely fought group games, Wildern School and Springfield school made it through to the final. Wildern won the toss and elected to field first and after an inspired bowling and fielding performance restricted Springfield to a modest 53 in their 12 overs. Wildern always looked in control when batting and achieved their total comfortably with a few overs to spare, to be this year’s county winners.

Mike Pollard HCB Cricket Development Officer said ‘It’s excellent to see more children participating this year and most of all having fun. The tournament is very much aimed at the grass roots of the game getting as many children playing as possible. Next year we are hoping to increase the number of schools further giving even more children the opportunity to play the game.’

Prior to the tournament a number of schools benefited from coaching sessions led by HCB Community Coaches, which gave them the opportunity to learn the game under expert tuition.  The Community coaches also delivered leaders courses to pupils which gave them the skills and knowledge to umpire and score at the various tournaments.
