The Rose Bowl recently hosted the 2008 Asda Kwik Cricket County Finals. The Finals followed numerous local festivals around the County, from which the finalists were determined.

The 16 schools that qualified to battle it out on the Rose Bowl outfield were Foxhills, Swanmore, Hiltingbury, Wooteys, Charles Kingsley, Mount Pleasant, Anton, Alverstoke, Park Gate, Bosmere, St Judes, West Tytheley, Great Binfields, Braishfield, St Joseph’s and Vernham Dean.

After some nail biting games, with some big hits and excellent fielding, the final was contested between Mount Pleasant from Southampton and Great Binfields of Basingstoke.

Mount Pleasant won the toss and decided to field first. Great Binfields batted very sensibly, losing very few wickets whilst managing to find the boundary at important times of the match. After their 8 overs they finished on a testing score of 246. Despite a fantastic effort from Mount Pleasant, they found it difficult to get into their stride, losing wickets at regular intervals and ended up 25 runs adrift.

John Crawley from Hampshire Cricket watched the tournament and was on hand to present the trophy and also speak to the children about his playing experience and the importance of living a healthy lifestyle.

As county winners, Great Binfields will now go onto to compete in the 2008 Regional Asda Kwik Cricket Finals which are being hosted by Hampshire at Basingstoke NH Cricket Club.
