HACO - What We Do

The Hampshire Association of Cricket Officials promotes the interests of cricket officials and cricket in general in Hampshire, co-operating with all appropriate local bodies and national associations and (where appropriate) similar bodies in other counties.  The Association takes account of and applies all ECB directives, regulations and guidance.

The Association’s objectives are:
- To recruit umpires and scorers and to provide a structured programme to meet their training needs;
- To provide a programme to develop, maintain and improve competence;
- To facilitate smooth progression between grading levels;
- To seek to ensure a minimum number of umpires and scorers to cover the agreed requirement;
- To identify and provide additional training to fast-track talented umpires and scorers;
- To provide adequate trainers, assessors and verifiers for all of the above.

The Association’s Officers and Committee Members represent the Association on appropriate county and national bodies, co-ordinate and administer all ECB training courses and examinations for umpires and scorers within Hampshire and oversee the appointment of officials to certain cricket matches organised under the auspices of the ECB.

Anyone interested in attending a training course for umpires and/or scorers should contact the Education Officer, Ray Holyer (tel: 02392-796937; e-mail: ray.holyer@ntlworld.com), who can advise on the content, timing and locations of appropriate courses.
