Financial support for the coaching and competition delivered over the last two years has been given by the Local Network Fund, the Lord's Taverners and the Richard Kirkman Trust. This in addition to direct funding from the Hampshire Cricket Board.
Disability Cricket in Hampshire owes its thanks to Disability Co-ordinator Jeff Levick, along with a dedicated committee and the volunteers working so hard to maintain what is without doubt a programme unrivalled in this country.
Each of the schools teaching and coaching the various disability groups will recieve our standardised offer of five hours specialist coaching. An outlet for competition and social interaction is provided in the form of relevant festivals for each disability group.
The best SLD players will be given the opportunity to join their nearest MLD team. We have set up a positive school/club link for each of the secondary MLD schools and provide a competition for them. This allows those of sufficient capability to join the mainstream club.
We are trying this year to set up six special clubs with a league competition for those who wish to continue playing but do not have the ability or desire to integrate into a mainstream club.
The inter school games played by the schools for the physically disabled will identify those capable of joining either mainstream clubs or special clubs.
We offer specialist coaching for the best MLD players to maximise their skills and act as an audition for our county side, with the county team continuing to play at the elite level.
This year there is a Tri Nations tournament for Learning Difficulties players. The England squad of 15 has 3 players from Hampshire and two from the Isle of Wight who have experienced the development outlined above.
